If you are off skiing soon, have you checked your travel insurance?
At this time of year, many of our more adventurous customers will be heading for the ski slopes. There are skiing destinations all over the world these days, so you should check your travel insurance carefully to make sure that your choice of ski resort is appropriate to your travel policy medical cover. The rates for Europe tend to be lower than for the States; and with the EHIC card, you can get first aid and hospital treatment under reciprocal European health care arrangements.
However, an EHIC card will not cover your journey home nor any problems associated with a prolonged stay, so it is always advisable to protect yourself and your family with either a single-trip or an annual travel policy. This will also cover loss or damage to your skis and equipment, and your luggage. There also is provision for an unused ski pack, and for ski hire charges if your holiday does not go as planned. If they close the piste, you will be entitled to claim up to £250 with our 50plus policy.
If you prefer the ski resorts of America, be advised that you will need to specify this when you take out your travel insurance. The cost of medical treatment in the US affects the premiums charged, although most skiers feel the excellent skiing more than makes up for the marginal increase in cost.
50plus offers excellent value travel cover through Tokio Marine, one of the UK's most respected travel insurance providers. Call us on 0800 854074 for details, or apply online at www.50plusinsurance.co.uk/travel
